Week 3
This Week’s Truth to Treasure: I Am Justified!
PART 1: Introduction & Reading Assignment
I memorized Romans 8:1 thirty years ago, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” and yet what do you think happens when I blow it?
I can so be my own worst enemy!
Out of all the chapters we’ll be diving into, this one in Jerry Bridges’ book is having the biggest impact on my life!
Reading Assignment: Read chapter three in Jerry Bridges’ book “Who Am I” pages 27-39.
Be sure to read with a pen in hand (colored if possible! ;0) and underline the things that stand out to you – this will be a huge help as you seek to further process and discuss this chapter with others.
PART 2: Creative Processing…!!!
RECOMMENDED MATERIALS: Art Journal, page from notebook or ledger, permanent markers, scissors, glue or glue stick, colorful paper for background (if desired :0)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. On a piece of notebook or ledger paper create two columns
2. Write Jesus’ name on the top of the first column. Write your name or “me” on the top of the other column.
3. Under Jesus’ name write “Totally Righteous!” Perfect Obedience, Perfect Righteousness!
4. Ask the Lord to bring to mind each time you sinned today and as he does write each thing down in the column under your name – remember sin isn’t just what you do, but can also be what you don’t do…!
5. Now take a pair of scissors and cut out those two columns making certain to leave your name and Jesus’ name remaining at the top along with the center line between your columns intact.
6. With glue or a glue stick, affix your column underneath Jesus’ name and then place his column under your name.
7. On top of your sin write “Paid in Full!”
8. Now have fun making the page your own, using the extra space as an opportunity to creatively record anything you want to remember from the book.
OPTIONAL: Take a picture of your page and share it via Instagram and/or facebook using the hash tag #WhoAmIartjournalingcourse
PART 3: Identify Your Application & Live It Out! :0)
Now you can read, create an awesome art journal page, and it not make much difference in your life. Where the rubber really meets the road is when you apply what you’re learning in the trenches as you’re living life. Jerry helps us wrap our hands around this key truth, and the art journaling can help us process and better remember it, but what could it look like if you really lived out the reality of this truth, of the fact that you are justified on a daily basis. What would you need to do for this to happen? And as a result how could your life be different?
Let me encourage you – after you’ve read and art journaled the chapter take time to write in the comment section below how you intend to apply this truth to your life this week. There is something very powerful about sharing your intentions with others. Here are a couple ways I’ve applied these truths in my life:
1. I started taking time each morning before getting out of bed to thank Jesus that He has me covered. That no matter how I may blow it in the day ahead, God is going to see me clothed in Jesus’ righteousness!
2. At night, I pray through the ACTS acronym to finish my day, spending time writing on a page in my journal thoughts of Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication. For a week I kept a red pen with my journal and after writing my confessions I wrote on top of them “PAID IN FULL!”
3. One other big change that happened as a result of this was when I camped out in Isaiah 64:6, I started adding to my confession list at night even her most righteous acts of the day! According to scripture even they are like polluted garments!!! What a humbling and helpful reminder this has proven to be.
Remember you want to keep your application SMART:
Specific (not vague, so you’ll know what to do!)
Measurable (how will you know whether you’ve completed it or not?)
Accountable (can it ever help to share with a friend or post on the LifeChange board here what you intend to do!)
Realistic (don’t think “Hey! Jerry quotes from Galatians a lot in this chapter. I’ll memorize the entire book by tomorrow!”)
Timely (not “By the time I’m fifty I’ll…” One friend suggests you select something you can do in the next 24 hours that will only take 5 minutes or less.)
THE GRAND FINALE!!!
Take a moment to share your application in the comments section below and then feel free to comment again sharing how it went or what you learned from it after you did it! This is our community board! Your chance to interact with each other – so feel free to respond to each other and encourage one another too!
This also serves as my prayer board! Yes! As you head through this journey know I am lifting you up and reading through your applications provides me with specific things to pray for! And considering Ephesians 3: 19-21,
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus, throughout all generations forever and ever!”
I can’t wait to hear how the Lord answers these prayers!!!

thank you! I recently joined as a friend introduced me to the Art Journaling as you taught her 🙂 I am not an artist but drawing out the truths helps me ponder them. Christ died that you and I could live and bear fruit!
